From destined to work 80-hour weeks to 2-4 hour days

Just 3 years ago I was lost, broke, and unfulfilled.

I was waking up before the sun just to get a few hours of work done before heading to university and working 1 of my 2 jobs.

And then guess what? I would come home and work some more.

While dreaming of working 2-4 hours a day, sipping mai tai's from a beach somewhere sunny, my life was filled with 12+ hour days and what seemed like endless amounts of work.

I would spend 6-8 hours a day working on my creator business and another 6-8 hours going to university or going to work.

And while it worked and I was getting (some) results, I wanted to quit.

I wanted to pack it in.

But I kept going.

Eventually, it paid off. I took the risk and went full-time with my creator business.

This was it.

This was what I was looking for, finally, I would be able to spend less time stuck behind that damn screen and more time doing what I loved!

But there was 1 problem...

I ended up replacing every free hour I got with more work.

The dream of 4 hour work days slowly vanished.

I couldn't figure it out.

I didn't even know if it was possible.

I worried my business would fall apart.

What if my brand stopped growing and I had to go back to that dreaded office?

My head was filled with doubts, limiting beliefs, and worry.

But I was determined to make it work.

I started looking at creators I admire, I started analysing how they operate.

What are they doing differently?

How do they get so much of the right things done?

How can they grow both their following and income whilst working less than 4 hours a day?

What's their secret?

After a few months of getting researching all the top creators, I realised 3 things;

1. You need overarching strategies

It's not good enough to just wake up and decide what to do, when to do it, and how to do it.

Making decisions takes a tonne of time and mental energy.

Time and mental energy that you shouldn't be wasting on decisions you can make once, rather than daily.

You need strategies.

Principles you can follow that remove decisions, increase consistency, and achieve a desired purpose - whether it's growth, sales, or anything in between.

Want to work less but still get results? Make less decisions.

2. You need to know what's essential

In your creator business, you're the one calling the shots.

You're the one deciding what needs to get done and what's important, but you're also the only one doing the work.

And when your business is your baby, it's easy to view everything as important, to think EVERYTHING needs done.

But that's just not true.

Most of the tasks you do in your creator business, are "busy work".

You need to understand what's essential, and what moves the needle for you and your goals.

If you want to work less but still grow, you need to focus on what matters, or you'll focus on what doesn't.

3. The more you live, the more you earn

This is a rule that applies almost exclusively to a creator business.

For the longest time, I worried that if I started working less, my business would suffer, my income and audience would fall of a cliff and I would be forced to start handing out résumés.

But here's the secret;

As a creator, you're in the business of ideas.

The more ideas you have and the higher the quality of your ideas, the better.

But you don't get good ideas sitting behind a screen.

You have to go out and experience life.

So when you have overarching strategies, are able to focus on what's essential and you work less, you actually end up having better results.

You grow faster and you earn more money.

Plus; nobody wants to follow the guy who just sits behind his computer screen all day.
